NMU, faculty approve new wage agreement

MARQUETTE, MI— Faculty at Northern Michigan University are getting raises in the next two fiscal years.

In November 2021, NMU reopened wage negotiations for the fiscal year 2024-25 with the AAUP/AFT union. It gives about 400 faculty members a 6.25-percent wage increase beginning July 1st, and a 2.75-percent hike starting July 1st of 2025. They replace the 2.25-percent increases originally negotiated.

Union members ratified the agreement on Thursday. The NMU Board of Trustees approved it Friday in a special meeting.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
