Home energy savings program in Hancock receives grant

HANCOCK, MI— A Hancock-based energy nonprofit has received a $220,000 donation to improve energy efficiency in low-income households.

New Power Tour received the contribution from the Kungness Foundation, based in Sweden. It will support the $1 million recently awarded to the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region through the state’s MI HOPE—or Michigan Housing Opportunities Promoting Energy Efficiency—program.

Foundation officials say they want to help more families and homeowners upgrade old, expensive, and poorly performing HVAC systems and to assist with sealing and insulating old housing.

More information about the MI HOPE program is available by calling 906-482-7205.
