Roundtable on clean energy and rural issues to be held Tuesday in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity is holding a roundtable in Marquette Tuesday to talk about the transition to clean energy and the needs of rural communities.

The discussion will feature LEO Senior Chief Deputy Director Jonathan Smith, Northern Michigan University President Brock Tessman, and InvestUP CEO Marty Fittante. It will also include voices from the community, including key stakeholders representing businesses and economic development organizations, non-profits, local government, and members of workforce, education, and labor organizations and the skilled trades.

LEO officials say regional collaboration is an important step in their commitment to work with communities to co-develop a clear vision for a diversified economy and turn the most pressing risks facing the state into wins for communities, workers, and businesses.

The roundtable will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Northern Center Founder’s Room at NMU.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
