SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, MI – Officials say a wildfire in the Seney National Wildlife Refuge that burned more than five square miles is roughly 95 percent contained.
The U.S. Department of the Interior offered the update Monday night about the about 3,400-acre Pine Creek North wildfire in Schoolcraft County. Officials say some crews are leaving the area as mop-up operations continue.
The wildfire was ignited by lightning and first reported on May 21. It is west of the Duck Lake Fire, which has burned more than 22,000 acres, or 34 square miles.
The Seney National Wildlife Refuge covers about 95,000 acres. The fire is in the northeastern corner, a mixture of forests and bogs.
