Resolution appealing for Duck Lake Fire help sent to Obama

LANSING, MI--   The Michigan Legislature has approved a resolution asking President Obama to declare a major disaster or emergency for areas affected by the Duck Lake Fire.  Approved by the House and Senate Thursday, the resolution urges the President to use federal resources to supplement exhausted state and local resources.

Started by a lightning strike in Luce County May 24, the fire had burned more than 21,000 acres and destroyed 49 cabins and homes, 23 garages, 38 sheds, and 26 campers by June 6.

The resolution has been transmitted to the President, the regional administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, members of the Michigan Congressional Delegation, and Governor Snyder.
