Trees felled by strong winds in Menominee County state park

CEDAR RIVER, MI--   A recent bout of straight-line winds is being blamed for downing about 400 trees in a state park in Menominee County.

Officials report a storm last week packing winds of up to 100 mph swept through J.W. Wells State Park, causing the damage.  No injuries were reported at the park near Cedar River.

A National Weather Service survey of the area determined that Tuesday's damage wasn't due to a tornado.

The weather service says the heaviest damage was near the park's entrance.
