MUNISING, MI-- The Alger Conservation District has received more than $14,000 to monitor water quality.
The grant was awarded through the Department of Environmental Quality’s MiCorps Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program, which provides training and support for volunteers.
The $14,083 will be used to observe animals and habitat at the bottom of five small watersheds in the district. Data that’s collected will be made available to local governments and stakeholders.
The DEQ established the Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program in 1998. It contracts with the Great Lakes Commission to administer it.
