GLADSTONE, MI-- Hiawatha National Forest officials want residents to tell them what they want to see in a road system.
Forest supervisor Jo Reyer says public use and maintenance costs on the Hiawatha continue to grow, but resources to keep roads in shape are decreasing.
Officials held four open houses to share data about the forest and gather citizen input about access needs and risks. Residents who didn’t attend any meetings may provide comments about forest roads through September 29.
Reyer says the input is needed to identify a minimum road system that serves the needs of the public and the forest at a cost that can be maintained over time.
