LANSING, MI-- State Representative Scott Dianda wants the DNR to purchase land in Houghton County for continued public use.
The Douglass Houghton Falls are on private land in the Keweenaw. The Calumet Democrat introduced a resolution Tuesday urging the DNR to acquire the 63 acres that border state-owned rail trails and highway M-26. He says while many guides list it as a “must-see” attraction, visitors are technically trespassing when they hike to the falls.
Dianda says people plan their whole vacations around seeing falls in the area, so buying the land would ensure greater public access.
