Tech gets grant to battle invasive species

HOUGHTON, MI--   Michigan Technological University has received a $1.1 million grant to help combat invasive species in Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay.

The funding comes through the EPA’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.  Guy Meadows, director of Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center, says the money will continue efforts with federal partners in Great Lakes stewardship.

The school is getting $648,799 to fight invasive plants along 310 acres of shoreline and wetlands in the Saginaw Bay region of Lake Huron.  It’s also getting $470,407 to control invasive species on 20 acres of land in the Les Cheneaux Islands.
