Natural resources panel to get briefing on summer storm

IRONWOOD, MI (AP)--   A panel that helps set wildlife policy in Michigan is convening in the western Upper Peninsula, which was hammered by a tornado and severe flooding this summer.

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will get an update on the storm's aftermath Thursday in Ironwood. The storm packed 90-mph winds and severely damaged property and roads while knocking out power and uprooting trees.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of potential changes in regulations dealing with commercial bait, bow and spear fishing, and possession of reptiles and amphibians.

Other topics include an update on Upper Peninsula brook trout streams, a predator-prey study and a potential land exchange with a mining company in the U.P.

The meeting will be in Gogebic Community College's David Lindquist Student and Conference Center.
