HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI-- The Department of Natural Resources is adjusting fees for a Western U.P. park affected by erosion.
Severe storms over the past two years have eroded the shoreline at F.J. McLain State Park. That means showers and flush toilets may not be available in the upcoming camping season, so the DNR intends to charge semi-modern rates for campsites and mini-cabins at the 443-acre park between Calumet and Hancock.
Officials say water, electric, and the sanitation station will be available, but short-term utility interruptions may occur during construction activities throughout the 2017 camping season.
Severe storms produced erosion that ate away park roads, utilities, and embankments, which forced the closure of a dozen lakefront campsites.
