Additional disaster funding headed to Marquette County

LANSING, MI--   Governor Rick Snyder has authorized the release of money from the Disaster and Emergency Contingency Fund to assist Marquette County entities hit by flooding in October.

The flooding damaged roads and bridges and forced some residents to flee their homes.  Snyder declared a state of disaster for Marquette County on October 21.

Monday’s authorization allows affected local governments to apply for assistance grants of up to $100,000. The money can be applied toward costs associated with the response to a disaster or emergency, covering overtime for public employees, contracts, shelter supplies, gasoline, and repair of public buildings and roads.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
