HANCOCK, MI-- A finalized master plan for F.J. McLain State Park includes $1.25 million for spring construction.
The Department of Natural Resources gathered public comment on the plan, which will guide development at the Houghton County park over the next 60 years.
Severe storms in 2014 and 2015 eroded park roadways, utilities, and large sections of embankment, forcing the closure of a dozen lakefront campsites. Other sites and utilities remain threatened by continued erosion. The new master plan calls for construction of a new toilet and shower building, modern campsites with electric service, and a new road within the campground.
The DNR awarded $1.25 million in capital outlay funds for Phase 1 of the master plan. A total of $1.45 million in funding has been provided for design and implementation of master plan concepts.
