HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI-- Houghton County’s F.J. McLain State Park has nearly $3 million to implement changes and improvements in its master plan.
In January the Department of Natural Resources awarded the park an initial
$1.25 million in capital outlay funding for Phase 1 implementation of the plan. The DNR recently gave another $1.25 million for Phase 2 improvements, bringing the total amount of funding to $2.7 million.
Phase 1 improvements—expected to begin after Labor Day—include a new campground toilet and shower building, 20 new modern campsites, and a new campground circulation road.
Phase 2 includes additional parking, a new park entrance and contact station, and
16 additional modern campsites with electricity.
