Marquette County wants disaster declaration

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette County Board of Commissioners is asking Governor Gretchen Whitmer to declare an emergency in the county due to flooding.

Chair Gerald Corkin sent a letter Tuesday stating, “The response and recovery elements of the Marquette County Emergency Operations Plan have been activated, and local resources are being utilized to the fullest possible extent. Despite these efforts, local resources are not sufficient to cope with the situation and conditions continue to deteriorate.”

The following county agencies have been activated to support the response and recovery efforts of municipal and township governments throughout Marquette County:

  • Marquette County Road Commission
  • Marquette County Central Dispatch
  • Marquette County Sheriff’s Department
  • Marquette County Emergency Management
  • Marquette County Emergency Operations Center
  • Marquette County Resource Management Department
  • Marquette County Health Department

A disaster declaration would allow local governments to access state funding and resources for response and recovery efforts.
