Land purchase in Baraga County to conserve acreage for public enjoyment

Superior Watershed Partnership

BARAGA COUNTY, MI— Baraga County has purchased more than 1,100 acres of forestland and river frontage in Covington Township.

The $2 million Sturgeon River Scenic Park acquisition was completed with the support of the Superior Watershed Partnership Land Conservancy and funding from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.

The SWP and the Great Lakes Climate Corps will be working with Baraga County and local partners on planning several miles of hiking trails, kayak launches, and environmental education kiosks. It will be open throughout the year.
