Officials looking for next state Christmas Tree

LANSING, MI— The search for the next state Capitol Christmas tree has kicked off.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget searches for and harvests a tree each year. It stands on the Capitol grounds in Lansing as part of “Silver Bells in the City.”

Officials are again asking residents for help in finding the perfect tree. It must be at least a 60-foot-tall spruce or fir with a maximum crown of 24 feet and maximum trunk diameter of 30 inches. The tree must be easily accessible from the road with no interference from wires, and it must be free of cost.

Those who would like to nominate a tree are asked to email their name, telephone number, a photograph of the tree, and information about its size and location to christmastree@michigan.gov.

The deadline for nominations is August 19th.
