Jackson Mine Park cleanup planned for Wednesday

NEGAUNEE, MI— The groups Respect Marquette County and Travel Marquette are holding a cleanup event in Negaunee Wednesday.

The community is invited to help clean up Jackson Mine Park from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A booth at the Negaunee Farmer’s Market will have trash bags, gloves, and Respect Marquette County T-shirts.

Travel Marquette launched the Respect Marquette County Coalition in partnership with Leave No Trace in 2022 to promote conservation, respectful use of the destination’s natural spaces, and to combat challenges including over-trafficking, litter, pollution, disrupting habitats and more.

Respect Marquette County was founded in support of Leave No Trace’s “7 Principles” of outdoor stewardship, promoting innovative education, skills and strategies to help visitors care for and protect natural areas, and resources to help combat conservation issues.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
