SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The Soo Locks are closing for the season Wednesday night.
The locks will close to all marine traffic beginning at 11:59 p.m.—or until commercial traffic ceases—through March 25 to perform seasonal maintenance.
Federal regulations establish the operating season based on the feasibility of vessels navigating during typical Great Lakes ice conditions.
The team will install a temporary panel bridge across the Poe Lock. It will provide the ability to mobilize materials and equipment to job sites throughout the winter closure.
