No burn permits being issued by DNR in the UP

MARQUETTE, MI— Due to dry conditions and heat, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is not granting any burn permits for the time being.

Fire Management Specialist Keith Murphy says fire danger is very high in the eastern half of the Upper Peninsula and extreme in the western half. The region hasn’t had rain in eight or nine days, but he’s hoping it will arrive by Thursday or Friday of this week.

“Yeah, we’re not issuing any burn permits until we get significant rain, but, you know, later this week, into the weekend, it’d be nice if people would check that out.”

You can check to see if burning is allowed at www.michigan.gov/burnpermit.
