MENOMINEE COUNTY, MI— Menominee County has declared a local state of emergency due to severe flooding.

Rising floodwaters have covered roads, created sinkholes, and washed out bridges. Water has overwhelmed utilities and infrastructure and flooded homes and businesses.

The Menominee River is expected to rise for another 24-48 hours. The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office urges all local residents to have a flood emergency plan, and to use extreme caution near standing and moving floodwaters.

Officials say:

  • Do not drive through flooded areas, as unseen hazards may exist below the water’s surface
  • Follow local detours and road closures
  • Watch for updates from Menominee County 911, the Menominee County Road Commission, and the MSP Emergency Management & Homeland Security Division.
