Michigan Department of Transportation

ST. IGNACE, MI— The annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk had more participants than usual Monday.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority says around 35,000 people showed up to walk the 5-mile span over the Straits of Mackinac.

MBA Bridge Director Kim Nowack says it was the largest crowd since 2016, when 45,000 people walked the bridge.

The Mighty Mack closed at 6:30 a.m. and reopened at noon.
