Troopers hosting teen driving class in Ironwood on June 28

IRONWOOD, MI— Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post are offering a Teen Defensive Driving Course at the Gogebic-Iron County Airport next week.

Officials say the hands-on program is open to teens and provides direct instruction from MSP troopers in a fun, safe, and controlled setting. The course focuses on building essential defensive driving skills aimed at boosting driver confidence and teaching young drivers how to anticipate and react to potential hazards on the road, reducing the risk of crashes.

Participants will also get to drive a patrol car.

The free course will be held Saturday, June 28 in two sessions: 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Space is limited to the first 24 participants.

Contact Trooper Joe Renaud to sign up, at 906-229-5372 or renaudj@michigan.gov.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
