Fire renders Iron Mountain home uninhabitable

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— A house in Iron Mountain has been heavily damaged by fire.

Saturday around 6:20 p.m. the city fire department was dispatched to a residence at 1211 West A Street. They found flames coming from the 1.5-story building.

Firefighters entered the house, putting out the fire as they went. They brought it under control within about 20 minutes and cleared the scene around 8 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Officials say the house was rendered uninhabitable.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen, but its cause is undetermined at this time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
