Fire damages Escanaba house

ESCANABA, MI— No injuries were reported in an Escanaba house fire Friday.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety responded around 10:25 a.m. to 226 N. 18th Street. They found flames and heavy smoke coming out of an upstairs window.

Officers were able to extinguish the flames. The upstairs part of the house and the attic sustained the most fire damage, while there was smoke and water damage in the lower levels.

Officials believe an electrical issue in the upstairs may have caused the fire, but the incident remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

Delta County Central Dispatch, the Ford River Township Volunteer Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Rampart assisted in the incident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
