Officials called to dumpster fire in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— Minimal damage was reported after firefighters put out a dumpster fire in Marquette Saturday.

The City Fire Department responded around 1:45 p.m. to 1020 Jefferson Street and found a dumpster smoldering. Police and residents had used fire extinguishers to knock down the flames. Firefighters used 750 gallons of water to completely put out the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The Marquette City Police Department and NMU Public Safety assisted at the scene.

Officials are reminding residents to completely cool or soak grilling materials before disposing of them.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
