UP fire risk remains very high to extreme

Michigan Department of Natural Resources

MARQUETTE, MI— Burn permits are not being issued anywhere in the Upper Peninsula at this time due to very high fire danger.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says several dry days and winds have primed fuels—like brush and grasses—for ignition. Temperatures in the 80s and 90s and low humidity will make it easier for fires to start.

Isolated showers Wednesday could reduce the risk in some areas, and there’s an increased chance for thunderstorms Thursday afternoon into Friday.

Officials ask residents not to burn anything and to report any wildfires to 911.
