Power line on tree sparks fire in Spurr Township

SPURR TOWNSHIP, MI— It took firefighters three hours to douse a fire in Spurr Township Monday.

Around 4 p.m., the Michigamme-Spurr Fire Department was dispatched to Hardwood Lane on a report of a tree on a power line with active fire.

Eight MSFD firefighters, DNR firefighters, and an employee from Wisconsin Electric fought the flames. The Michigamme-Spurr Responder Team and Champion Township Fire Department were also paged for standby.

It took crews three hours and 4,500 gallons of water to extinguish the fire, which burned 2.5 to 3 acres.

The DNR returned to the scene Tuesday morning to put out any hot spots.
