Hancock city council approves tax proposal for November ballot

cityofhancock.com

(HANCOCK)- The Hancock city council will put a proposal on the November ballot that, if passed, could raise taxes for local residents.

According to a report by WLUC-TV, passage of the proposal would generate an extra $132,000 for the city.

Hancock has shown a steady decline in revenues since 1991, the last time the council levied the charter allowed - 15 mills - for taxes.

Council member John Haeussler says if the voters approve the proposal, it doesn't mean the city will raise taxes immediately. It means the city would have the option to raise taxes if they need to.
