Officials to discuss City of Marquette proposed budget, utility rates

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette City Commission will consider raising utility rates at a public hearing of its proposed Fiscal Year 2016 budget Monday.

The budget includes a 7-percent increase in rates for water, wastewater, and stormwater services.  The average residential customer would see an increase of $5.71 a month, or $68.52 a year.

Curt Goodman is director of the city’s Public Works and Utilities Department.  He says the rate increase would put an additional $736,000 in Marquette’s utility funds next year.  That would provide funding for improvements in the future and make sure unexpected expenses and repairs are covered.

The City Commission meets at 7 p.m. in Commission Chambers at City Hall.
