Additional housing plan approved by Marquette officials

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette City Commission has approved a plan to create more workforce housing in town.

Commissioners voted Monday for a Brownfield Plan to convert 710 Chippewa Square from commercial to residential use.

Called “The Chipp,” the 14-unit rental property would be available for those whose household incomes are 120 percent of the Area Median Income or less.

The Brownfield Plan will provide for the reimbursement of Brownfield Environmental and Housing Development Eligible Activity costs, including environmental due diligence and the gap between development and rent revenues.
