Norlite free of coronavirus, officials say

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette’s Norlite Nursing Center is officially free of COVID-19.

Officials say the final resident was removed from isolation after receiving consecutive negative tests. She tested positive on April 23.

The center will stop testing residents on a weekly basis. All staff has been testing weekly, with no positives since April.

New testing guidance was released this week. Officials say they’re confident their plan moving forward protects residents, staff and the community.

Visiting residents is still banned until at least July 12. But Norlite plans to try scheduled outdoor visits in the near future.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
