Jacobetti home gets grant for disease prevention

MARQUETTE, MI— The DJ Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette has received a grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The $65,000 will be used to strengthen infectious disease mitigation and prevention efforts. The home will purchase air purifiers and ultraviolet disinfection towers, along with portable and permanent isolation stations to reduce the risk of staff spreading infection between members.

Officials say Jacobetti residents enjoy the camaraderie of gathering in common areas for coffee, meals, and activities, and the grant will help provide a healthier environment for them.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
