SWP named a Hero during the pandemic

MARQUETTE, MI— The Superior Watershed Partnership has been recognized by the Michigan Heroes Project.

Part of the Governor Whitmer’s Michigan Community Service Commission, the program recognizes heroic efforts during the pandemic that transform lives and inspire everyone to serve others.

The SWP was recognized for mobilizing its Great Lakes Climate Corps to staff food distribution events. Corps members later partnered with federal, tribal, state and local partners to prepare campsites and clear trails of winter debris at area parks. Also, many SWP staff served as contact tracers with the Marquette County Health Department to help slow the spread of COVID.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
