Ishpeming receives trophy for winning Blood Battle

ISHPEMING, MI— The City of Ishpeming received a trophy on Friday for winning the 3rd Annual Blood Battle with the City of Negaunee.

The Battle began in 2021 as an effort to increase donations to the U.P. Regional Blood Center. Ishpeming residents donated 58 pints of blood, while Negaunee donated 27 pints this time around.

The trophy was presented at Ishpeming High School in between girls’ and boys’ basketball games with Negaunee.

Since its inception, the Blood Battle has seen residents donate 243 pints of blood, which represents 729 lives saved.

The donation events were organized by the Negaunee and Ishpeming High School National Honor Societies.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
