LANSING, MI (AP)-- Conservative and progressive groups are joining forces to advocate for changing Michigan's civil asset forfeiture laws.
The new Fix Forfeiture group was announced Thursday.
The group says it will advocate for the passage of legislation in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio as well as at the federal level.
Michigan House Judiciary Committee Chairman Klint Kesto will be part of the group's leadership team. Kesto has helped lead work on a package of bills to change civil asset forfeiture in the state.
Groups involved with Fix Forfeiture include the American Civil Liberties Union, Americans for Tax Reform, the Center for American Progress, the Faith & Freedom Coalition, FreedomWorks, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and Right on Crime.
