Marquette County Police Officer of the Year named

MARQUETTE, MI--   A member of the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has been named county Police Officer of the Year for 2016. 

Captain David Lemire has been with the department since 1992, working in the Sheriff’s Marine Division, the Road Patrol, Special Operations, and Rescue Unit 131. He also served in special assignments as a member of the UPSET team and the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team. 

Lemire served in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1991.  He was born and raised in Marquette.

The Marquette County Law Enforcement Administrators’ Association will give Lemire his award Wednesday at NMU’s University Center.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
