Fallen officers to be remembered May 15 in Schoolcraft County

MANISTIQUE, MI— The 2022 Upper Peninsula Peace Officers Memorial will be held next month in Manistique.

The purpose of the event is to honor the memory of fallen officers. Officials will recognize officers from the U.P., Wisconsin bordering agencies, Ontario bordering agencies and Upper Peninsula natives. The event will feature a law enforcement processional, the roll call of fallen officers, the laying of the wreath, a performance of Taps, a rifle salute and a keynote speech by Michigan State Police Director, Colonel Joe Gasper.

The memorial takes place Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at Manistique High School.

The event is sponsored by the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post and Manistique Outpost, Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department, Sault Tribal Police and Manistique Public Safety Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
