Movie money being circulated in the Soo area

Sault Ste. Marie Police Department

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department is urging residents to check their cash before they accept it from anyone.

Officers say they’ve had an increase in complaints about “entertainment money” being used as real currency in the area.

The notes are sold in all denominations. Some say “for motion picture use only,” and all have purple stripes down the center of the bills.

Anyone who receives fake money should notify law enforcement.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
