Houghton Police Department seeks accreditation, public input

City of Houghton

HOUGHTON, MI— An assessment team is coming to the Keweenaw next month to talk to residents about Houghton Police.

The department is seeking accreditation and must comply with 108 standards to achieve it. As part of the process, a team from the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission is taking comments about the department’s ability to comply with those standards.

The team will arrive in Houghton on August 2nd to conduct an on-site assessment.

Employees and the public may provide input by calling between 9 and 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 3rd. The number is 906-481-4630. Email comments can be sent to policedepartment@cityofhoughton.com.

Accreditation is valid for three years. The department must submit annual reports attesting to its continued compliance with those standards.
