Body of missing ice climber found at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

MUNISING, MI— The body of an ice climber who fell into Lake Superior February 7th has reportedly been found.

James Bake, 32, of Gaylord was climbing near Miner’s Castle at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore when a wave pushed him from an icy rock ledge into the water. Local, state, and federal rescue teams searched by water, air, and land.

On Monday morning, Bake’s wife Lauren posted on Facebook his body had been found a short distance from where the accident happened.

No other details are available at this time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
