MTU grad student missing

Michigan Tech Public Safety

HOUGHTON, MI— Michigan Tech Police are asking the public for help in finding a missing graduate student.

Matthew Sisson, 36, was reported missing on Friday. He last had contact with his family on February 11, when he mentioned he’d be heading to Walmart. They haven’t heard from him since.

Despite extensive searches conducted by Michigan Tech’s Public Safety team and local law enforcement, Mathew’s whereabouts are unknown.

Sisson is described as a 5’8”, 215-pound white male with long black hair and brown eyes. He has a full-face beard and wears glasses. It’s not known what he was last wearing.

University officials and Public Safety personnel are especially concerned for Matthew's safety and well-being due to known mental health challenges.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Matthew is urged to contact Michigan Tech Public Safety at 906-487-2216. Tips can be anonymously submitted by visiting https://www.mtu.edu/tips/.

Officials say every piece of information, no matter how small, could help bring Sisson home safely.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
