UP schools awarded money for electric buses

MARQUETTE, MI— Three Upper Peninsula school districts are getting federal funds to purchase electric buses.

The awards are administered through the EPA’S Clean School Bus Program.

The Ojibwe Charter School in Brimley is getting $395,000 to buy one bus. The Bessemer Area School District was awarded $790,000 to purchase two vehicles, as was the L’Anse Area Schools district.

Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters say the electric buses will improve air quality and help districts cut transportation costs.
