Marquette to ask state for vehicle money

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette City Commission has voted to request funding from the state legislature for three new vehicles.

The city has been encouraged to submit potential projects or items through the State 2025-2026 Legislatively Directed Spending Items—or LDSI—request process.

Two needs identified by city officials include the replacement of two snow plow trucks and one ladder truck for the Marquette Fire Department. City Manager Karen Kovacs says they’ve needed to replace the ladder truck for some time.

“We are driving a 1996 model ladder truck, and we have a phenomenal mechanic division that maintains this equipment very well; however, it is 30 years old. And they just don’t move like they used to at 30 years old.”

The plows will cost a total of $600,000, while the ladder truck is expected to cost around $2 million. If approved, funding will be earmarked for the vehicles in the state budget.
