Rehabbed Iron River apartments reopen

IRON RIVER, MI--   A revamped housing complex in Iron River held a grand opening Monday.

Hiawatha Apartments received a $430,000 Multi-Family Guaranteed Housing Loan from USDA Rural Development.  The money was used to provide new roofs, windows, doors, bathrooms, appliances, and improved accessibility for its 32 units. 

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority also provided support. 

Under the Obama Administration USDA Rural Development has invested more than $6.5 billion in Michigan projects.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
