Pine Ridge Apartments reopen to most residents

Marquette Housing Commission

MARQUETTE, MI--   Residents displaced by fire at Marquette’s Pine Ridge Apartments in July have been cleared to move back.

WLUC-TV reports the Marquette Housing Commission says it’s received an occupancy permit, and floors one through eight may return to their apartments. Floor nine has not yet been cleared for occupancy.

Residents forced out by the July 30 roof fire were initially lodged at the Superior Dome. After that shelter closed they stayed with friends, family and kind strangers.

Officials say the building’s fire alarm and air circulation system passed inspection Friday. Air quality tests were conducted Monday, and Pine Ridge’s doors were reopened later in the day.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
