Marquette, MI - Northern Michigan University is on-track with its “Our Compass” strategic plan. That’s according to NMU President Brock Tessman who delivered his fall convocation address to the campus community yesterday (Wed). Tessman outlined a trio of ‘grand challenges’ that NMU will focus on moving forward, and updated the university's core values and mission/vision statements. The challenges fall under the titles of ‘supporting people,’ ‘partnering with place,’ and ‘realizing the potential of all students.’
Tessman also addressed free speech and expression, academic freedom and political advocacy. NMU has added a “Free Speech at NMU” page to the university’s website that includes campus contacts for assistance in facilitating free speech and expression advocacy activities in ways that do not violate university policies.
And the president said that NMU’s enrollment is growing, unlike the national trend at other universities. Final numbers for the fall semester will be released on September 9th.
