Art is taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary; for Amber Dohrenwend, this means taking something like a humble cardboard box and transforming it completely.
Amber makes sculptures, costumes, and installations with post-consumer cardboard, and her work is currently on display in an exhibition at Graci Gallery in Marquette. Originally from the area, Amber recently returned after a long stint in Japan. Part of her artistic process involves a sense of place and her latest project is "about the effort of making a home for herself in unknowable places."
Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Amber about her exhibition:
Amber Dohrenwend's exhibition is on display at Graci Gallery this May, with an artist reception on Saturday, May 25th. Visit gracigallery.com or amberdohrenwend.com for more information.
