A notable author from Michigan is taking his cold-case story Grim Paradise across the Upper Peninsula on a library tour.
When author Rod Sadler heard the news that he was one of ten authors to be picked for the 2024 U.P. Notable Books List, he was pleasantly surprised. The list, which honors U.P. authors and their books, started in 2019 as a "response to the lack of representation of U.P. writers in other Michigan state literary circles," said UPPAA Notable Books chairman Mikel Classen.
Rod Sadler's thirty-year law enforcement career informs his writing, with books To Hell I Must Go from 2015 and A Slayer Waits from 2017. His most recent work, Killing Women, was the backstory for the True Crime Network documentaries I Survived a Serial Killer and Making a Serial Killer. Grim Paradise centers around the tragic story of widow Frances Lacey, who was murdered in July of 1960 on Mackinac Island. The clues available at the time did not lead to an arrest, and the case is still considered open or a "cold case."
